In a devastating accident on the Ondo-Ore Expressway, no fewer than 16 people lost their lives while three others sustained injuries on Tuesday night. The fatal crash occurred near the Ajure community in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The collision involved an 18-passenger Toyota Hiace bus and a truck, both of which were traveling at high speeds. The impact of the head-on collision caused the bus to catch fire, tragically burning 16 of its occupants.
Three individuals miraculously survived the crash and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Confirming the incident on Wednesday, the Ondo Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Ibitoye Samuel, attributed the accident to overspeeding and wrongful overtaking. He noted that rescue operations concluded at approximately 11 p.m.
