21-Year-Old Allegedly Shot by Police for Refusing to Pay N200,000 Bribe in Abuja

A 21-year-old man was allegedly shot by unidentified policemen in Kubwa, Bwari Area Council of Abuja, after reportedly refusing to pay them N200,000. The incident was disclosed by popular activist and social media personality, Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, in a video shared on his Facebook page on Sunday.

In the video, Otse shows the young man lying in a hospital bed, recounting the shocking details of the incident. According to VeryDarkMan, the shooting took place when the young man could not produce the requested sum.

“Twenty-one years old boy shot by the police yesterday in Kubwa, Abuja, because they requested 200k and he didn’t have to give them,” Otse stated, adding, “Are we going to be running away from thieves, armed robbers, and kidnappers, and still be running away from Nigeria Police that are supposed to be protecting us?”

Otse condemned the situation, describing it as increasingly concerning and questioning the safety of Nigerian citizens. “This thing is getting crazier by the day. Just look at this young boy on my screen that was allegedly shot yesterday. This boy said they met him and the next thing, they were asking him to bring N200,000,” he added.

Otse further urged the authorities, including the Force Public Relations Officer and the FCT Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, seeking accountability and justice for the young man.
