A total of 79% of respondents fully or somewhat agree that downing drones is a sensible measure, according to the YouGov survey commissioned by dpa and published on Saturday.
Only 6% are opposed to the possibility of shooting them down. The representative survey of 2,256 people was conducted from October 10 to 13.
After a rash of drone sightings and airport closures in Germany, the government recently finalized plans for improved drone defence.
Before the end of this year, special units of the federal police are to be supplemented by a drone defence unit.
Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt is also insisting on a change in the law so that the armed forces can provide administrative assistance in the event of military drone sightings in the country.
More than two-thirds (69%) of survey respondents said they are fundamentally concerned about the recent drone sightings. Another 14% are unconcerned, while 15% remain neutral on the issue.
Although the origin of the drones flying over Munich Airport earlier this month is not yet officially known, Chancellor Friedrich Merz suspects Russia is behind the actions.
More than half of those surveyed agree with this assessment, deeming Russia’s involvement to be somewhat or very likely (58%).
In contrast, 19% consider this to be somewhat or very unlikely. Moscow rejects the allegations of drone interference.
