First Lady Oluremi Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme has provided crucial assistance to no less than 250 elderly individuals in Nasarawa State. At an event held in Lafia on Thursday to distribute the support, Mrs. Tinubu, represented by Shela Tosan-Akabe, Wife of the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, emphasized the importance of caring for the elderly.
Mrs. Tinubu expressed her commitment to the well-being of senior citizens, stating, “Each beneficiary will receive N100,000 as part of our dedication to supporting the elderly aged 65 and above across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.”
The beneficiaries, carefully chosen from the 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs) nationwide, are set to receive the financial support. Mrs. Tinubu explained, “N250 million was approved by the Governing Board of the Renewed Hope Initiative, and every state and the FCT will receive their share for onward disbursement.”
Highlighting the significance of the support during the festive period, Mrs. Tinubu expressed optimism that the funds would alleviate the economic challenges faced by the elderly. “This initiative aims to cushion the effect of the economic situation and alleviate the burdens of the elderly,” she added.
Silifat Sule, the wife of Nasarawa Governor, commended the first lady, emphasizing the uniqueness of the gesture that targets often-overlooked elderly individuals in society. She urged beneficiaries to use the funds judiciously for their benefit and that of their loved ones.
Aisha Rufai, Nasarawa State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, praised the first lady for the timely support. She assured that measures were in place to ensure beneficiaries received their funds directly, without the involvement of a third party.
In a heartfelt response on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mariam Rabiu expressed gratitude to the first lady and prayed for her and the success of her husband’s administration.
