Egypt: President El-Sisi Meets Palestinian President Abbas to Discuss Ongoing Developments

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to address the ongoing developments in the Palestinian Territories. The two leaders engaged in an expanded session of talks, attended by their respective delegations.

Spokesman for the Presidency, Counselor Ahmed Fahmy, disclosed that President Abbas provided an overview of the latest Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip, highlighting the ensuing humanitarian crisis. Additionally, the situation in the West Bank, marked by escalating tension and violence from the Israeli side, was a focal point of discussion.

President El-Sisi outlined Egypt’s intensive efforts and ongoing contacts with various stakeholders to advocate for a ceasefire and the immediate, unimpeded delivery of humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip. The aim is to alleviate the suffering of civilians in the sector, emphasizing the urgent need for sufficient quantities of aid.

During the talks, both leaders underscored the pivotal role played by the Palestinian National Authority and emphasized the vital necessity of providing robust support to enable the Authority to fulfill its responsibilities. President El-Sisi and President Abbas jointly stressed that the Palestinian cause is at a critical juncture, demanding the highest levels of responsibility from the international community and active stakeholders, both historically and politically. They urged concerted efforts towards a just and comprehensive settlement that envisions the establishment of an independent Palestinian State along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital – a fundamental guarantee for regional security and stability.

The two Presidents vehemently rejected any endeavors or attempts aimed at liquidating the Palestinian issue or forcibly displacing Palestinians from their lands. President Abbas expressed immense appreciation for Egypt’s historical and ongoing support for the Palestinian cause. Egypt’s unwavering and persistent efforts at all levels were commended, particularly in addressing the bloodshed and supporting the Palestinians in their pursuit of legitimate rights.

The meeting between President El-Sisi and President Abbas signifies a collaborative commitment to addressing the critical challenges facing the Palestinian people and working towards a just and lasting resolution to the longstanding conflict.
