The Nigerian Police have commenced an investigation into a petition filed by renowned Nigerian singer and songwriter, Tiwa Savage, concerning alleged bullying and threats to her life by Grammy nominee David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido. The announcement was made by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Wednesday in Lagos.
“I can confirm that we received the petition. We have begun an investigation,” stated SP Benjamin Hundeyin.
Tiwa Savage, in her petition dated January 9 and addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Mr. Adegoke Fayoade, accused Davido of making disrespectful remarks following a post that featured herself and the singer’s baby mama, Sophia Momodu, on Instagram.
In the petition, Tiwa Savage expressed disappointment at Davido’s threats and reminded him of her support for his family during challenging times, particularly when he lost his son. She alleged receiving calls from mutual connections inquiring about her actions upsetting Davido and questioning her relationship with Sophia.
“I am writing to bring to your attention a distressing situation involving myself and Adeleke,” the petition read. “The actions of Mr. David Adeleke are unethical and can be viewed as a direct threat to my rights to life, privacy, and dignity of my person as guaranteed in Chapter 4 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and are also in contravention of Section 24(2)(a) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015.”
Tiwa Savage emphasized that Davido’s actions amounted to harassment, both online and offline, and she urged the Nigerian Police Force to hold him responsible for any untoward or harmful events that might occur to her or her family.
The police investigation aims to unravel the details surrounding the allegations and ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law.
