Ankara, Türkiye – In response to the panel report issued in the case initiated by the United States, titled “Turkey — Additional Duties on Certain Products from the United States” (DS561), Türkiye has formally communicated its decision to appeal. The panel report, distributed to members of the World Trade Organization (WTO) on December 19, 2023, prompted Türkiye to contest the findings through the established appeals process.
The appeal notification was officially circulated to WTO members on January 31, 2024, marking Türkiye’s determination to challenge the panel’s conclusions and defend its stance in the ongoing trade dispute with the United States.
The case, which revolves around additional duties imposed by Türkiye on specific products originating from the United States, has been a focal point of discussions within the WTO. The appeal process signifies Türkiye’s commitment to exhaust all available mechanisms within the WTO framework to address and resolve the trade-related concerns raised by the United States.
As the WTO members await further developments, the appeal process is expected to bring additional clarity to the trade dynamics between Türkiye and the United States and may influence future negotiations aimed at finding an amicable resolution to the dispute.
