Maj.-Gen. Mohammed Aminu-Abdullahi, the commandant of Depot Nigerian Army Zaria, announced that the institution has significantly bolstered the combat readiness of 12,500 soldiers during the 2023 training year.

Speaking during the 2023 West African Social Activities (WASA) in Zaria on Saturday, Mr Aminu-Abdullahi highlighted the pivotal role the Depot plays in preparing trained personnel for deployment across various corps, formations, and units of the Nigerian Army, contributing to the nation’s security and defense.

“In 2023 training activities were conducted based on the Depot Nigeria Army training directive, derived from the Nigeria Army focus on endurance 2023 and Nigeria Army training directives and policy 2023,” stated Maj.-Gen. Aminu-Abdullahi.

He also expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff for providing the necessary environment and resources that facilitated the institution’s successes.

The commandant revealed that the Depot has commenced training for the 86 Regular Recruit Intake, emphasizing the institution’s commitment to furthering the goals set forth by the Chief of the Army Staff Lt.-Gen Taoreed Lagbaja.

“To achieve this, the Depot NA would be guided by Nigeria Army training directives and focus on endurance 2024. Our goals for 2024 training year were based on developing expertise and enhancing the corporate image of the Nigerian Army and to embark on several corporate social responsibility tasks,’’ he added.

Brig.-Gen. Aliyu Jibril, Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Military Police, also addressed the gathering, urging officers and soldiers to uphold core military values such as loyalty, self-service, courage, discipline, and respect for others.

“As you commence another training year, I therefore, charge you to remain focused and highly resilient to all forms of distraction that are capable of affecting your ability to discharge your duties professionally,” remarked Brig.-Gen. Jibril, stressing the importance of maintaining focus amidst the numerous operational tasks aimed at ensuring peace and stability across the nation.

Brig.-Gen. Jibril also commended Depot NA for sustaining the tradition of WASA, emphasizing its significance as a platform for showcasing the rich and diverse culture of the nation within the barracks community.
