Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to expedite the investigation into former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje. The allegations against Ganduje involve the embezzlement of state funds.
The call was made on Monday by Sunusi Bature, the Director-General Media and Publicity for Governor Yusuf, during a conversation with the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano. According to Bature, Governor Yusuf is committed to ensuring that those who have misappropriated the state’s funds, including Ganduje, are held accountable through legal means.
Bature further stated that the current administration will continue to probe Ganduje’s eight-year tenure until all public funds in his possession are recovered. “We wish to reaffirm the present administration’s resolve and readiness to make anyone found guilty of corruption face the full wrath of the law for their intentional wrongdoings,” he said.
In response to allegations of diverting funds meant for the state, Governor Yusuf expressed disappointment that Ganduje would make such claims while still under investigation by the EFCC for looting public funds. “Our eight months in office has remarkably outweighed Ganduje’s eight wasted years of political caricature and maladministration by all standards,” Governor Yusuf said.
Bature also mentioned that Governor Yusuf is not bothered by Ganduje’s criticisms. Instead, the governor is focused on how to offset the public debt of over N300 billion inherited from Ganduje’s administration.
Governor Yusuf is taking bold steps to pay the backlog of pension gratuity for the state pensioners who were not paid by the Ganduje administration. This is in addition to other development projects the current administration is undertaking.
