Court Halts Uche Secondus from Participating in PDP Meetings

Abuja, Nigeria, April 9, 2024/ — A Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order restraining former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, from participating in the party’s meetings pending the determination of a motion on notice. This development comes as a result of an ex-parte motion filed by a PDP member from Rivers State, Titus Jones.

In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/440/2024, various party officials and entities, including Uche Secondus, the PDP, acting PDP chairman Umar Damagun, PDP Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, the PDP National Executive Committee, the PDP National Working Committee, the PDP Board of Trustees, and the Independent National Electoral Commission, were listed as defendants.

Justice Inyang Ekwo, in his ruling dated April 5, 2024, granted all the reliefs sought by the plaintiff. The court ordered the National Chairman, Secretary of the Party, National Executive Council, and Board of Trustees not to allow Secondus to attend any of its meetings until the suit is determined.

The ruling stated, “Order is hereby made restraining the first defendant from attending any meeting of the second defendant, be it caucus meetings, meetings of the National Executive Committee, or Board of Trustees, or any other meeting howsoever described participating in the proceedings, deliberations of any such meeting pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”

The matter has been adjourned till April 12, 2024, for the motion on notice.

The ruling marks a significant development in the ongoing legal tussle within the PDP, adding a new dimension to the internal dynamics of the party.
