ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, May 16, 2024 – The European Union (EU) and its partners have launched a four-year programme aimed at restoring the local economy and building the resilience of micro-, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) that are affected by the crises in Ethiopia. The programme will primarily focus on the North of the Country, notably the regions of Afar, Amhara and Tigray.
The initiative is jointly funded by the European Union, the German Government, and the Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of the Netherlands. It is being implemented by KfW Development Bank, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF).
This programme is a significant step towards economic recovery and sustainable development in the crisis-hit regions of Ethiopia. It aims to empower MSMEs, which are the backbone of the local economy, and enhance their resilience in the face of crises. The initiative also underscores the commitment of the EU and its partners to support Ethiopia in its path towards sustainable development.
