President Tinubu Establishes Committee to Oversee Green Economic Initiatives, Appoints Chief Ajuri Ngelale as Special Envoy on Climate Action

In a strategic move to bolster his administration’s climate and green economic initiatives, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the formation of a Presidential Committee on Climate Action and Green Economic Solutions. The committee aims to coordinate and oversee all policies and programs related to climate action and green economic development.

President Tinubu appointed Chief Ajuri Ngelale as the Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action. Chief Ngelale will serve as the Secretary of the committee while retaining his role as the Official Spokesperson of the President and Special Adviser on Media & Publicity.

“The establishment of this committee marks a significant step in our commitment to achieving Nigeria’s green economy objectives and ensuring a just energy transition,” said Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information & Public Relations. “Chief Ngelale’s appointment as Special Envoy on Climate Action underscores the administration’s dedication to this critical sector.”

The Presidential Committee, chaired by President Tinubu, includes key figures such as Balarabe Abbas Lawal, Minister of Environment, who will serve as Vice-Chairman, and prominent leaders from various federal institutions and agencies. The members are tasked with several objectives, including:

  1. Identifying and implementing innovative non-oil and non-gas climate action initiatives.
  2. Coordinating federal institutions to achieve climate action and green economic objectives.
  3. Collaborating with government, non-government, and civil society entities to advance climate action goals.
  4. Monitoring and evaluating the progress of renewable energy projects.
  5. Preparing biannual updates on climate action achievements.

The full list of committee members includes notable figures such as Lazarus Angbazo, CEO of InfraCorp, Salisu Dahiru, CEO of NCCC, and several other leaders from key sectors and agencies.

Chief Ngelale expressed his commitment to the role, stating, “I am honored to be appointed as the Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action. This is a crucial time for Nigeria as we navigate the complexities of climate change and green economic development. I look forward to working with the esteemed members of this committee to drive forward President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on climate action.”

President Tinubu emphasized the importance of a whole-of-government approach to climate-action programs and the efficient governance needed to ensure all relevant institutions are aligned with his vision. This initiative reflects Nigeria’s dedication to unlocking new investments in the green economy, which is central to the nation’s economic future.

The establishment of this committee and the appointment of Chief Ngelale demonstrate President Tinubu’s commitment to advancing Nigeria’s green economy and ensuring sustainable development for future generations.
