Atiku Abubakar Declares Intention to Contest 2027 Presidential Election

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, making it his seventh attempt at the nation’s highest office. The 77-year-old politician made this announcement during an interview with Voice of America Hausa service.

When asked if he would run in the 2027 election, Abubakar responded with, “Insha Allahu,” meaning by God’s grace. He affirmed, “Of course, I will keep contesting as long as I am alive and healthy. Even the former US President Abraham Lincoln contested seven times before finally winning.”

Abubakar emphasized the necessity of forming alliances between opposition parties to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). “Given the current state of the PDP, it is clear that a single-handed effort will not suffice to win the election. Strong support and collaboration with other parties are required,” he said.

The former vice president also reiterated his commitment to supporting the party’s zoning arrangements, signaling his willingness to adhere to internal party dynamics and agreements.

Abubakar’s announcement sets the stage for another potential run in Nigeria’s political landscape, underscoring his persistence and determination to secure the presidency.
