Kate Henshaw Blasts President Tinubu’s Administration for Reinstating Old National Anthem Amid Economic Hardship

Ace Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw, has sharply criticized the administration of President Bola Tinubu for reinstating the old national anthem instead of addressing the severe economic challenges facing the country.

Henshaw voiced her displeasure in a now-viral post on her X handle, questioning the timing and relevance of the change. “In the midst of excoriating hardship & lack of good governance on every level but not to worry, going back to a colonial anthem will be a soothing balm and inject patriotism back into our veins, a much needed drug,” she wrote sarcastically.

The actress further lamented the dire state of the nation, highlighting widespread suffering and ineffective governance. “The country is facing excoriating hardship and lack of good governance on every level,” she noted.

In another pointed comment, Henshaw emphasized how the move disrespects the efforts of Nigeria’s founding figures. “The labour of our heroes past… o ti lo [is gone],” she added.

The controversy stems from President Tinubu’s signing of the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law on Wednesday, May 29, which reinstated the old anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.” Henshaw’s critique echoes widespread sentiment among Nigerians questioning the priorities of the current administration amidst the ongoing economic crisis.
