Lagos, Nigeria — Popular music executive Michael Collins Ajereh, better known as Don Jazzy, and ace Afrobeats singer Ayodeji Balogun, also known as Wizkid, appear to have reconciled following a public rift. The rekindled camaraderie came after Wizkid endorsed Ayra Starr’s sophomore album, ‘The Year I Turned 2’.
The discord began when Wizkid shaded Don Jazzy after Ladipoe, a signee of Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records, seemingly ridiculed Wizkid on X (formerly Twitter) for claiming that “hip hop is dead.” When a fan brought the post to Wizkid’s attention, he responded, “Lol, never chatting with anyone signed to an influencer. Next.” He further retweeted posts that hinted at the music producer, causing a social media uproar. Following the incident, Don Jazzy unfollowed Wizkid on Instagram.
However, on Friday, Don Jazzy extended an olive branch by appreciating Wizkid’s endorsement of Ayra Starr’s latest album. The Grammy winner praised the album, sharing its cover and streaming link with the tweet: “Superstar [love and eagle emojis].” In response, Don Jazzy reposted the tweet with the caption, “Thanks Big Wiz [eagle emoji].”
