E3 Nations Applaud IAEA’s Firm Stance on Iran’s Nuclear Program

The Foreign Ministries of France, Germany, and the United Kingdom collectively expressed their approval following the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors’ resolution concerning Iran’s nuclear activities. The resolution addresses Iran’s continued non-compliance with its Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Safeguards Agreement obligations.

In a joint statement released on Thursday, the group said that Iran has been found to possess undeclared nuclear material at multiple locations within its borders, a direct violation of its legal obligations under the NPT. Despite the IAEA’s efforts to engage Iran in dialogue, the nation has not cooperated meaningfully, leading to a significant resolution by the IAEA Board.

The IAEA Board has emphasized the urgency for Iran to fulfill its safeguards obligations, a call that has gone unheeded for 18 months. Iran’s actions, including restricting agency access and making statements on its nuclear capabilities, have raised international concerns.

The new resolution is a testament to the IAEA and its Director-General’s unwavering commitment to resolving the nuclear material issue. It sends a clear message that the international community will not tolerate actions that undermine the non-proliferation system and the credibility of the global safeguards regime.

The statement encourages Iran to cooperate with the IAEA and provide satisfactory explanations for the unresolved issues. If Iran complies, the IAEA Director General could report the resolution of these matters, potentially leading to the closure of the Board’s consideration of the issue.

“We welcome the IAEA Board’s decisive action. It is imperative for Iran to cooperate fully and transparently to ensure global security,” stated a spokesperson for the E3 nations. “This resolution is a step towards holding Iran accountable and we remain hopeful that Iran will seize this opportunity to resolve the outstanding matters.”

The international community awaits Iran’s response, hoping for a positive outcome that reinforces the integrity of the non-proliferation treaty and ensures global peace and security.
