EU Condemns North Korea’s Ballistic Missile Launch, Calls for End to Illegal Actions

Brussels, July 2, 2024 – The European Union has strongly condemned the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) for launching ballistic missiles on July 1, deeming it a violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions. The EU’s stance highlights increasing concerns over regional and international peace and security.

The condemnation was contained in a statement released on Tuesday by Nabila Massrali, spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

“The EU strongly condemns the DPRK’s launch of ballistic missiles on 1 July, which constitutes another violation of UN Security Council resolutions.”

The EU reiterated its demand for the DPRK to halt all illegal actions that jeopardize global stability and security. (“We urge the DPRK to accept the offers of dialogue by relevant parties and to comply with its obligations under UN Security Council resolutions to abandon its nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles in a complete, verifiable, and irreversible manner,”) Massrali emphasized.

Additionally, the EU expressed deep concerns over the intensifying cooperation between the DPRK and Russia, which is seen as a direct violation of several United Nations Security Council resolutions. (“We are also gravely concerned by deepening DPRK-Russia cooperation in flagrant violation of multiple United Nations Security Council resolutions. We reiterate our strong call on the DPRK and Russia to cease illegal arms transfers,”) said Massrali.

The European Union reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with all partners to promote a diplomatic process aimed at achieving the complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization of the Korean peninsula. (“The EU is ready to work with all partners in promoting a meaningful diplomatic process aimed at the complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula,”) Massrali concluded.
