The German Air Force trained alongside its Japanese counterpart for the first time on Monday.
A spokesman for the German Air Force said that the flights by Eurofighter combat jets and an A400M transport aircraft marked the start of the joint exercise called Nippon Skies.
The maneuver with the Japan Air Self-Defense Force is part of the weeks-long Pacific Skies exercise series.
Meanwhile, in Australia, the German Air Force’s participation in the multi-nation Pitch Black 24 aerial exercises has also commenced.
The German military is slowly becoming more involved in the economically and strategically important Asia-Pacific region.
