The Southern Kaduna People’s Union, SOKAPU, has disassociated itself from the planned national protest in August 1, while condemning the motive behind it.
The union disassociated itself while addressing a press briefing on Friday in Kaduna.
The president of the union, Tabara Kato, said it reasoned that a well intentioned protest cannot originate from people who just previously claimed that “religion, ethnicity and tribe forbid protests against leaders”.
Mr Kato equally reasoned, “Only people who don’t think embark on a journey to a destination they cannot predict”.
“It is more reasonable and meaningful to remain where we are and manage what we know in order to get what we need.
”For now, at least there is respite from insecurity with hope for improvement.”.
According to Mr Kato, the governments at both federal and state levels were operating a policy of inclusiveness which marked a clear departure from the past governments.
Ms Kato said, ”There is hope for more in this regard if only Nigerians are patient and give the present Federal and State Governments time.”
While lamenting that the state of the economy was not pleasant, Mr Kato added that the decay did not start from the present government.
“Since every government wants to be successful, the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu and Kaduna State under Gov. Uba Sani are no exception. They need time with our support to succeed in office.
“For now, let it be known that SOKAPU is standing with the government at both levels in contrast to participating in any protest in Kaduna State, Nigeria and in the diaspora.”
The SOKAPU president thanked Mr Tinubu for finding his members worthy to work with him in salvaging Nigeria such as the CDS, D-G of NYSC, D-G of Cadastral Mining Zone and the Minister of Environment, among others.
Mr Kato also thanked Mr Tinubu for the support he gave to Sen Sunday Marshall-Katung in his lobby for a Federal University in Southern Kaduna.
“We are looking forward to seeing it become a reality. We are seriously ready and willing to work with anyone desiring to make Kaduna State and Nigeria, peaceful and great at this material time under my watch as president of SOKAPU,” he said.
