Dispute Arises Between Nigeria Olympic Committee and Ministry of Sports Over Athlete Kits

A dispute has arisen between the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and the Ministry of Sports, sparked by issues surrounding the distribution of kits to athletes. The conflict centers on two different sets of kits being provided—one from the NOC and another from the Ministry of Sports.

The situation escalated to the point where Nigerian Minister of Sports, John Enoh, convened a meeting on Monday to address the issue and mediate between the two parties.

A source close to the ministry revealed that the NOC had not informed the ministry about a separate kitting agreement it had signed with a company. “Normally, there is always a general kit, which everyone should have, and there are also the competition kits which are the prerogative of each sports federation,” the source explained.

For example, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has a contract with Nike as its kit supplier. “There is no way you will ask the footballers to wear a different attire from that supplied by Nike,” the source added.

The general kits are meant for Team Nigeria athletes to wear when they are not competing.
