President Ramaphosa to Visit Angola for Talks with President Lourenço

President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to embark on a working visit to the Republic of Angola on Thursday, August 8, 2024, where he will meet with President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço. The visit aims to strengthen the bilateral relationship between South Africa and Angola, which is deeply rooted in their shared history of the liberation struggle against colonialism and apartheid.

During this visit, the two leaders will reflect on the robust ties between their nations and discuss a range of issues of regional mutual interest. Key among these will be the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the ongoing efforts to resolve conflicts across the African continent.

“President Ramaphosa and President Lourenço will use the occasion of the working visit to reflect on the bilateral relationship between the two countries,” an official statement read, highlighting the deep historical ties between South Africa and Angola.

In addition to bilateral talks, the discussions will also focus on broader regional and continental issues. “The two Heads of State will share perspectives on issues of regional mutual interest, including the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and on regional and continental efforts aimed at resolving the conflicts that are plaguing the continent,” the statement continued.

Accompanying President Ramaphosa on this important visit will be Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola and Minister of Defence Angie Motshekga, ensuring that the discussions are comprehensive and cover a wide range of pertinent issues.
