Kenya’s aspiring leaders now have the chance to unlock their potential through the prestigious Chevening Scholarship, an opportunity that could propel them to new heights in their careers. The Chevening Scholarship, which offers full financial support to pursue a master’s degree at one of over 150 UK universities, is now open for applications until November 5, 2024.
Since its establishment in 1983, the Chevening Scholarship has empowered over 57,000 professionals worldwide, including more than 700 Kenyans, to excel in fields such as governance, finance, media, technology, and policy. The program is designed for individuals from diverse backgrounds who are committed to making a positive impact in their home countries and who have the vision to become future leaders.
Neil Wigan, the British High Commissioner to Kenya, while encouraging Kenyans to seize this opportunity, stating, “If you are passionate about driving change, whether locally or globally, if you want to be the best at what you do and you have the imagination to inspire others, then you should choose Chevening. I want to see Kenyans from all walks of life and all parts of the country apply for this fantastic opportunity and join the strong network of over 700 Kenyans occupying various top positions across all sectors in Kenya. If you have the ambition to become a future leader, apply today.”
“So far, my stay in the UK has been nothing but a truly profound experience that has left an indelible mark on my life. I have made many remarkable new friends and I’ve travelled to different cities and areas of interest to continue documenting #MyCheveningJourney”, says John Orimbo, a 2023 Chevening Scholar currently studying a master’s in education (inclusion and disability) at the University of Birmingham
He added, “It is one thing to study in the UK, but adapting to the ever-changing climate is something else entirely that requires preparation! Nonetheless, the diverse culture has been a journey itself, with each day presenting new experiences and remarkable opportunities for growth and adaptation.”
Chevening Scholarships, funded by the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations, aim to nurture future decision-makers and opinion formers. These scholarships provide not only academic enrichment but also access to exclusive professional and cultural experiences, ensuring that scholars return home equipped to lead and inspire.
