Dangote Denies IPMAN’s N600/litre Claim

Dangote Refinery has refuted a claim by the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) that it has fixed the price for its Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise known as petrol.

The refinery made this known in a statement signed by its Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, where it said the stories that the price of fuel has been fixed to be sold for N600/litre is false.

Chiejina was responding to an earlier assertion by IPMAN’S National Vice President, Hammed Fashola that Dangote Refinery might crash the price of petrol to between N600 – N650 per liter depending on its production cost.

Speaking on Monday via a statement made available to journalists, Fashola said, “The official price from the NNPC is around N570/liter, but the third parties, the private depots sell PMS to most of our members at N700 and above

“Plus or minus, we hope Dangote can sell between N600 and N650/liter. N600 is still okay. However, it depends on the cost of the production from Dangote’s end.”

However, while distancing itself from the press statement by IPMAN, Dangote Refinery said the group is not its business partner, adding that it did not discuss the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) with the oil marketers.

Chiejina said, “Our attention has been drawn to headlines announcing ‘Marketers Project N600/litre for Dangote Petrol’.

“We would like to clarify that the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) is not our business partner yet.

“We have never discussed the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) with them, and they have no mandate or authority to speak for us, either for good or with hidden transcripts.

“We urge the public to desist from such speculative announcements.

“We have our official channels through which we make our views known to our stakeholders.”
