Katsina State Launches E-Court For Quick Handling Of Corruption Cases

The Katsina State Government says a special electronic court is underway to handle corruption cases and related offences in the state.

The Chief Judge of the state, Justice Musa Danladi, made this known in Katsina, when he received delegates from the state Anti-Corruption Commission on a familiarisation visit.

The delegation was led by the Chairman of the commission, retired Justice Lawal Garba, among others.

“We are going electronic because we are setting up an electronic evidence presentation system, from arrest, interrogation and collection of evidence.

“In order to stem the tide of corruption in Katsina State, a special court will be designated for the trial of suspected offenders.

“The court will not hear any other matter other than corruption cases and it will be equipped with an electronic evidence presentation system.

“We are going into a serious collaboration with you (Anti Corruption Commission) since it is a new baby.

“You need a lot of enlightenment, you must follow due the process and do not look at anybody but Katsina State.

“I want you to base all your operations on ICT.

“There are even some businessmen ready to support government.

“Do not go after civil servants alone, get contractors who are found wanting. Don’t allow anybody to go Scot-free.

“You have my full support and we are going to establish special magistrate courts in the three senatorial districts of the state,” he said.

Earlier, the commission’s Chairman, Justice Lawal said the visit was to inform the Chief Judge abour the operations of the commission and seek collaborations.

“By virtue of your office, you have the power to take over any criminal case to continue or to drop one, and there is a need for us to familiarise with your office and advise us accordingly,” he said.

The delegation also paid a similar visit to the state Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Fadila Dikko, where she pledged to collaborate and give necessary support to the commission.

“Corruption in the country has become deep, so you can count on our support. However, all hands must be on deck to fight corruption.

“You are all aware that the commission is under the supervision of the ministry of Justice, so we are partners”, she said.
