UK Prime Minister Holds Talks with China’s President Xi Jinping

The UK Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, had a conversation with President Xi Jinping of China this morning.

According to a statement released by the UK government, the discussion focused on several key areas, including national security, border security, and economic stability.

During the call, both leaders explored opportunities for collaboration between the UK and China. They discussed potential partnerships in trade, the economy, and education.

As permanent members of the UN Security Council, they also agreed on the importance of working closely on global issues like climate change and security. The Prime Minister emphasized the need for “open, frank, and honest discussions” on areas where the two countries may not see eye to eye, such as Hong Kong, Russia’s actions in Ukraine, and human rights.

The conversation ended on a positive note, with both leaders agreeing on the importance of a “stable and consistent” relationship between the UK and China. They also stressed the need for continued dialogue between their countries’ foreign and domestic ministers. The leaders agreed to keep in touch.
