President Tinubu Appoints New DG For NIA, DSS

Abuja, August 26, 2024 — President Bola Tinubu has appointed new Directors-General for Nigeria’s top intelligence agencies. Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed is the new head of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), while Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi is now the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS).

“The President expects these new security chiefs to work hard to improve the performance of these vital agencies,” according to a statement released on Monday by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity.

Ambassador Mohammed has had a distinguished career in the foreign service since joining the NIA in 1995. He has held various roles, including leading the Nigerian mission in Libya. A 1990 graduate of Bayero University, Kano, Ambassador Mohammed has also served in North Korea, Pakistan, Sudan, and at the State House in Abuja.

Mr. Adeola Ajayi, the new DSS Director-General, has steadily climbed the ranks within the DSS. Before his appointment, he was the Assistant Director-General and had served as State Director in Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi.

“These appointments come after the resignation of the former NIA and DSS chiefs,” the statement noted.

President Tinubu has urged the new Directors-General to use their experience to address Nigeria’s security challenges. He emphasized the importance of working closely with other agencies and aligning efforts with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

“The President thanks the outgoing Directors-General for their service to the nation and wishes them success in their future endeavors,” said Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity.
