President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa visited China on September 2, 2024, at the invitation of President Xi Jinping. The two leaders discussed ways to deepen the relationship between their countries and boost cooperation between China and Africa.
In their talks, the leaders emphasized the growing friendship between South Africa and China. They agreed to elevate their relationship to an “all-round strategic cooperative partnership,” aiming for stronger political ties, balanced trade, and accelerated economic growth. President Xi praised the progress made in their relationship over the past 26 years and highlighted the importance of working together for mutual development.
President Ramaphosa thanked China for its support and congratulated the country on the 75th anniversary of its founding. He also reaffirmed South Africa’s commitment to the “One-China Policy,” recognizing China’s sovereignty over Taiwan.
The two leaders discussed various global and regional issues, agreeing on the need to protect human rights, support economic globalization, and promote peace. They also committed to strengthening cooperation in areas like agriculture, digital economy, and renewable energy.
The visit concluded with the signing of several agreements, including those on trade, cultural exchange, and scientific cooperation. Both Presidents expressed their satisfaction with the visit, seeing it as a significant step towards a stronger China-South Africa partnership and a closer China-Africa community.
