Otti to Reconstitute Abia Pilgrims Welfare Board Ahead of Holy Land Pilgrimage

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has announced plans to reconstitute the Abia Pilgrims Welfare Board in preparation for this year’s pilgrimage to the Holy Land. The governor made this commitment on Tuesday during a visit by a delegation from the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission, led by its Executive Secretary, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, at his residence in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area.

Governor Otti expressed gratitude to the church for its significant role in his election victory and appreciated Bishop Adegbite for recognizing the progress made by his administration. He emphasized his commitment to good governance, focusing on service and the welfare of the people. “I want to assure you that this government will continue to do the right thing,” Otti said. “We believe that leadership is about service, and if you are not interested in the welfare of the people, you have already failed.”

Otti highlighted his careful management of the state’s funds, noting that despite the financial challenges, his administration has avoided borrowing. He mentioned that any future borrowing would be strictly for investment purposes. He also pointed out that his administration is systematically implementing various programs from his election manifesto.

Bishop Adegbite urged the governor to reconstitute the state’s pilgrims welfare board, praising its historical collaboration with the Christian Pilgrims project. He also mentioned that arrangements for the 2024 Christian Pilgrimage to the Holy Land were ongoing, with the current cost set at N5 million per pilgrim. Adegbite promised to update the governor on the exact cost for Abia pilgrims once the state’s support is confirmed.

In closing, Bishop Adegbite commended Governor Otti for his achievements since taking office 16 months ago.
