Kano Governor to Reward Head Teachers Found Working During School Vacation

KANO, Nigeria (Sept. 7, 2024) — Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has announced plans to reward two primary school head teachers in Tsanyawa Local Government Area who were found diligently working during the school vacation period. The announcement was made after the governor conducted an unannounced visit to Tsanyawa Central and Model Primary Schools on his return from Katsina.

According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf was impressed with the dedication of the head teachers, Mal. Ismaila Alhassan of Tsanyawa Central Primary School and Mal. Magaji Sule of Model Primary School, who were present in their offices preparing for the upcoming 2024/2025 academic session, scheduled to begin next week.

“The Governor was notably impressed with the headmasters’ commitment, particularly since they were present in their offices despite schools being on vacation,” the statement said.

Yusuf noted that after consulting with the Commissioner of Education, the state government would determine a suitable reward to recognize the headmasters’ dedication. “This is to enhance their morale and inspire others to follow their exemplary conduct,” the governor remarked.

The visit also reinforced the governor’s pledge to prioritize education under the ongoing State of Emergency on Education, as he promised to improve the teaching and learning environments at the schools he visited.

Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his commitment to conducting surprise visits to schools and government projects across the state to ensure that they meet established standards and are implemented efficiently.

He also encouraged local youth to take advantage of the 26 skills acquisition centers recently reopened by the current administration. “These centers provide an opportunity for our youth to gain self-reliance and contribute to the socio-economic progress of their families,” Yusuf stated.

The headteachers expressed gratitude for the governor’s attention to education reforms. “We appreciate the governor’s support and are motivated to continue improving our schools,” said Mal. Alhassan of Tsanyawa Central Primary School.

The governor’s unplanned visit and the upcoming reward program reflect his administration’s emphasis on strengthening the state’s educational infrastructure and promoting dedication among educators.
