G7 Condemns Iran’s Ballistic Missile Exports to Russia

The G7 foreign ministers issued a stern statement on Saturday, denouncing Iran for supplying ballistic missiles to Russia and calling for an immediate halt to these transfers. The ministers condemned both Iran’s ongoing support for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and Russia’s use of Iranian weapons to escalate the conflict.

“We, the G7 Foreign Ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, along with the High Representative of the European Union, condemn in the strongest possible terms Iran’s export and Russia’s procurement of Iranian ballistic missiles,” the statement read.

The G7 cited evidence that Iran continues to transfer weaponry to Russia despite international pressure to stop. These weapons, including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), have been used by Russia to attack Ukrainian civilians and critical infrastructure.

“Russia’s aggression constitutes a flagrant violation of international law, including the UN Charter,” the ministers added.

The statement reiterated a demand for Iran to halt its military support to Russia, calling it a “direct threat to the Ukrainian people, as well as European and international security.” The ministers also emphasized their commitment to holding Iran accountable for its role in supporting Russia’s “illegal war.”

In response to Iran’s actions, the G7 pledged to introduce new and significant measures to counter the ongoing military collaboration between Tehran and Moscow.
