Edo Governor-Elect Vows To Build on Oshiomhole’s Legacy

BENIN CITY, Nigeria (ChatnewsTV) — Edo State governor-elect Monday Okpebholo has pledged to build on the legacy of former governor Adams Oshiomhole and replicate the transformational leadership of Akwa Ibom’s former governor, Godswill Akpabio. Okpebholo made the remarks after being declared winner of last Saturday’s gubernatorial election.

“I am very happy, and I thank the Edo people for choosing the right person to do the job,” Okpebholo told reporters. “Look, the new Edo is rising. I am here to develop Edo. I want to transform Edo the way it should be.”

Okpebholo, who secured a decisive victory, expressed gratitude to the electorate and vowed to carry on the developmental strides of Oshiomhole, who governed Edo State from 2008 to 2016 and is now a senator representing Edo North.

“I want to tell you that I am starting from where Adams Oshiomhole stopped,” the governor-elect stated. “I also want to let you know that I would like to imitate what Akpabio has done in Akwa Ibom State. Edo has received a new transformation. By the grace of God, Edo is back again.”

Oshiomhole, widely credited with significant infrastructure projects and reforms during his time in office, has been a key political figure in Edo State. Okpebholo’s promise to build on his legacy signals continuity for many of the policies that have defined the state’s governance over the past decade.

Okpebholo also referenced Akpabio’s transformational leadership in Akwa Ibom, saying he hoped to bring similar growth and development to Edo. Akpabio, who served as Akwa Ibom’s governor from 2007 to 2015, is known for his extensive infrastructure projects, including road networks and social services.
