Ex-Commissioner Accuses Wike of Destabilizing Rivers State Politics

PORT HARCOURT—A former Commissioner for Information in Rivers State, Austin Tam-George, has expressed disappointment in Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), accusing him of destabilizing political affairs in Rivers State.

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Monday, Tam-George, who served under Wike’s administration as governor, criticized his former boss for allegedly fueling political unrest in the state.

“I’m very disappointed in what the minister is doing. He’s the one orchestrating this. He’s the one who has set forth a process to destabilize the state,” Tam-George said.

The former commissioner, who held the Information portfolio during Wike’s tenure, urged the ex-governor to shift his focus to his new responsibilities as FCT minister and leave the state’s governance to the current Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

“What I expected him to do was to, you know, focus on his mandate,” Tam-George said, adding, “He’s got a clear administrative mandate in the FCT. The FCT has one of the worst public schools in Nigeria.”

Tam-George accused Wike of neglecting his duties in Abuja, instead focusing his attention on causing political friction in Rivers State. “He has a full plate there in order to deliver service. But he’s not doing that. Instead, he’s focusing on how to destabilize Rivers State, and obviously, Rivers people are going to resist him every time,” he concluded.

The former commissioner’s remarks come amid ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, with critics accusing Wike of meddling in state politics despite his new role at the federal level.
