Social Critic Accuses FCT Minister Wike of Displacing Ruga Residents for “Rich Friends”

ABUJA, Nigeria (ChatnewsTV) — Nigerian social critic Martins Ortse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, has accused the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, of demolishing parts of the Ruga community along Airport Road in Abuja to benefit wealthy associates. Ortse’s claims come in the wake of recent demolitions conducted by the FCT taskforce, Operation Sweep, which have left thousands of Ruga residents homeless.

In a post shared on his Instagram page, Ortse condemned the demolitions and warned of their potential impact on security in the capital. “Dear Nyesom Wike, I heard you allegedly chased these thousands of people because you wanted to give your rich friends the land,” he wrote, urging the minister to consider the consequences for those displaced.

Ortse further criticized Wike for displacing people who had already fled insecurity in their own communities. “Now you are trying to push them to a state of desperation for survival,” he added. Ortse’s post also highlighted his visit to Ruga in the early hours of the morning, where he distributed mosquito nets to residents exposed to malaria risks after losing their homes. “I had to go over 1,000 mosquito nets to keep the mosquitoes away and save them from getting sick,” he said.

Calling for urgent intervention, Ortse appealed to Wike to allocate alternative lands for the displaced residents to prevent potential future insecurity in the FCT. “Please, Nyesom Wike, allocate an alternative place for them and save Nigerians from future insecurities,” he urged.

The FCT administration has not issued an official response to Ortse’s allegations. However, the demolitions in Ruga have drawn widespread attention, raising concerns over housing rights and the government’s plans for developing the region amidst ongoing tensions over land use in Abuja.
