KANO, Nigeria (ChatnewsTV) — A host of Nigeria’s political elite, including Vice President Kashim Shettima and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, gathered Saturday at the Palace of the Emir of Kano for the wedding of A’isha Kwankwaso, daughter of former Kano State Governor Rabi’u Kwankwaso. The bride married Fahad Mangal, son of prominent businessman Dahiru Mangal.
The wedding ceremony, known as the Fatiha, was officiated by the Chief Imam of Kano, Professor Sani Zahraddin, in the presence of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II. The traditional ceremony, steeped in cultural and religious significance, saw a symbolic bride price of N1 million. In addition, the groom gifted another N1 million to the officiating imams.
Among the prominent guests was former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who arrived early at 9:30 a.m., dressed in a white babbarriga with a red cap—emblematic of the Kwankwasiyya movement founded by Mr. Kwankwaso in 2011. Vice President Shettima followed shortly, touching down at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport around 10 a.m.
Other notable attendees included former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and a lineup of ex-governors such as Ahmed Makarfi (Kaduna), Victor Attah (Akwa Ibom), and Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto). Defense Minister Abubakar Badaru, Muhammad Sani Abacha—the son of the late Head of State—and Major Hamza Al-Mustapha also graced the occasion.
