KANO, (ChatnewsTV) – An Upper Shari’a Court sitting at Kofar Kudu in Kano State has struck out a case against Auwal Danladi Sankara, the Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties, over allegations of adultery with a married woman.
The case, which was brought before the court by one Nasiru Buba, accused the commissioner of having an extra-marital affair with Buba’s wife, Tasleem Nabegu. Following Buba’s complaint, Kano State Hisbah operatives arrested Mr. Sankara and brought him into custody.
However, during today’s court proceedings, the presiding judge, Ibrahim Sarki-Yola, ruled that there was insufficient evidence to support the allegations. He emphasized the need for thorough and careful investigations by law enforcement agencies.
“Following the investigation by the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, the report shows there is no evidence to prove that there was any illicit affair between Auwal Danladi Sankara and Tasleem Baba Nabegu,” Judge Sarki-Yola stated in his ruling.
The judge also noted that the complainant, Mr. Buba, and his legal representatives had failed to appear in court to contest the findings from the police investigation.
“Since the complainant and his lawyers are not present to challenge the submission by the police, I have no choice but to strike out the case,” Sarki-Yola concluded.
The judge further pointed out that allegations against prominent individuals must be handled with caution to prevent unnecessary harm to their reputations.
Reacting to the ruling, Sadam Suleiman, counsel to Mr. Sankara, expressed satisfaction with the court’s judgment, stating that his client had always maintained his innocence.
“We have always maintained that our client is innocent. The court has affirmed this by clearing his name based on the police investigation,” Suleiman said.
Meanwhile, Rabiu Shu’aibu, the counsel for Tasleem Baba Nabegu, revealed that legal action might be taken against Nasiru Buba for defamation.
“We will discuss with our client to explore the possibility of filing a case against Nasiru Buba, as he has defamed her name,” Shu’aibu said.
