Anambra Executive Council Approves Tax Exemptions For The Poor, Awards Contracts For Critical Infrastructure

AWKA, Nigeria (CHATNEWSTV) — The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has approved tax exemptions for businesses with capitals below ₦100,000 and devolved more sanitation powers to local governments as part of its ongoing governance reforms.

The resolutions were among key decisions taken during the 35th ANSEC meeting, chaired by Governor Chukwuma Soludo. The Council also observed a moment of silence for the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, describing his passing as “a reminder of our shared mortality.”

In a press statement issued by Commissioner for Information Law Mefor, PhD, the Council restated its commitment to leasing and concessioning public enterprises to attract private sector efficiency. It also reiterated enforcement of the Anti-touting Law, urging offenders to embrace government empowerment initiatives for legitimate livelihoods.

The Council approved multiple contracts to enhance infrastructure and public services across the state. These include:

Rehabilitation of Injection Substation at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University: Awarded to Kolc Ventures for ₦228.1 million.

Free Internet Access for Anambra State House of Assembly: PINE HEIGHT GLOBAL RESOURCES LTD secured the ₦81.8 million project, to be delivered within two weeks.

Construction of 151 Open Stalls at Afuzo Market, Isuofia: Crystal Dove Construction Company will execute the ₦279.1 million project.

Road-Marking of Amawbia Flyover Motorway: Allpee International Ltd will complete the ₦118.7 million project within six weeks.

The health sector will see new medical and non-medical equipment installations at:

Specialist Hospital, Fegge (₦367.6 million).
General Hospital, Anaku (₦285.5 million).

Contracts were also awarded for solar street lighting projects in Awka, segmented into three lots and valued at over ₦1 billion.

Additionally, 500 fluorescent concrete signages for state infrastructure branding, tagged “Solution Is Here,” will be produced by Conifer Konstruction Nig Ltd for ₦200 million.

Governor Soludo emphasized the need for efficient execution, noting these projects reflect his administration’s commitment to economic growth and improved service delivery.

ANSEC urged private investors to consider taking over public enterprises under lease or concession arrangements, reinforcing its stance that private management often yields better outcomes than government-operated models.

The Council concluded with a directive to ensure prompt project completion and transparency in contract execution.
