Kremlin Criticizes Scholz for Pledges of Support to Ukraine

Agency Report

Moscow  – Russia has criticized German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s latest promises of aid for Ukraine, following the German leader’s visit to Kiev this week.

Scholz did not say anything new, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday. But, Peskov added, like other representatives of European states, Scholz indicated that the current course in this war would be continued.

“They deliberately continue to pursue their destructive policy aimed at fuelling and continuing this war,” Peskov was cited as saying by Russian news agencies.

Russia started the war with a large-scale invasion in February 2022.

Despite the criticism of Scholz, Peskov said Moscow is willing to continue the recently resumed contact with the chancellor.

“Of course, there is a point in continuing contacts; there is always a point in resuming them. The president has repeatedly said that he remains open to dialogue aimed at achieving our goals,” Peskov said.

In November, Scholz called Russian President Vladimir Putin for the first time in almost two years, but received some criticism internationally for holding the call.

With regard to the latest military aid package for Ukraine from Washington – amounting to some $725 million – Peskov said the deliveries “cannot influence the dynamics at the front.”
