TALLINN, Estonia (CHATNEWSTV) — EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/ Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas on Sunday lauded what she described as the “positive and long-awaited” end of Syrian President Bashar Assad’s rule, framing it as a pivotal moment for regional security and a sign of diminishing influence from his allies, Russia and Iran.
“The end of Assad’s dictatorship is a positive and long-awaited development. It also shows the weakness of Assad’s backers, Russia and Iran,” Kallas said in a statement posted to X, formerly Twitter.
Kallas stressed the importance of collaboration to stabilize Syria and the broader region.
“Our priority is to ensure security in the region. I will work with all the constructive partners, in Syria and in the region,” she added.
The prime minister emphasized the challenges ahead, particularly in Syria’s reconstruction efforts.
“The process of rebuilding Syria will be long and complicated, and all parties must be ready to engage constructively,” Kallas noted, adding that she remains in contact with regional ministers to coordinate efforts.
