Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl says his side simply have to win next Sunday’s Bundesliga game at Wolfsburg before the mini mid-season break.
The Black and Yellows were held 1-1 at home by Hoffenheim on Sunday following their former winger Jacob Bruun Larsen’s late leveller.
Dortmund, who started the season so strongly at home, failed to win for the third home game in a row in all competitions and risk going the whole of December without a victory, just like last year.
“We’re running behind in terms of points,” Kehl told reporters. “We still have one game left (this year) and we have to win it, regardless of the means.”
Dortmund, under inexperienced coach Nuri Sahin, are five points off fourth place and a guaranteed Champions League spot next term.
Defender Nico Schlotterbeck did not mince his words about last season’s Champions League runners-up.
“We are Borussia Dortmund, against Hoffenheim it’s only important for us that we win,” the German centre back said, having played despite a ligament injury.
