Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has suspended Warri-Itakpe train service after a minor derailment.
Passengers got stranded overnight after the incident occurred at Okpara station in Ethiope East LGA of Delta state by 10 pm on Sunday.
Yakub Mahmood, NRC’s deputy director of public relations in a statement released on Monday, said engineers have been mobilised for repair to ensure the track is restored as soon as possible.
The statement reads, “The management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) hereby informs the general public, especially our valued passengers that ply the warri-Itakpe route, that following the minor derailment yesterday at the okpara station, the service will resume shortly as our team of Engineers are at the site of the accident to ensure the track is restored anytime soon.”
“However Itakpe-Warri (ujewu) trains will resume as scheduled in the afternoon today.”
Recall that NRC suspended train operations along the same route in July after a train travelling from Itakpe in Kogi to Ujevwu in Delta derailed at about 7.15 pm.
