KANO, Nigeria (CHATNEWSTV) — The Kano State Censorship Board has suspended and revoked the operating license of popular Kannywood actress Samha Inuwa, citing alleged violations of the board’s regulations on indecent dressing and vulgar content.
The decision, announced in a statement by the board’s spokesman, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, followed complaints from concerned citizens about the actress’s “revealing dress and provocative videos.”
“Despite several warnings issued to Ms. Inuwa, she continued to engage in crude dressing, vulgar displays, and inappropriate language in some of her videos,” Sulaiman said. “Her conduct is in violation of the cultural and moral standards we are mandated to uphold.”
The board, responsible for ensuring that all creative expressions conform to the state’s cultural and religious values, stated that the punitive measures reflect ongoing efforts to enforce regulations within the Kannywood film industry.
Sulaiman emphasised that the board is committed to preserving Kano’s cultural identity. “We are empowered by law to ensure that all forms of expression align with the state’s religion, culture, norms, and values,” he added.
The actress, who has yet to publicly respond to the suspension, has drawn mixed reactions on social media. While some supported the board’s decision as necessary to uphold cultural values, others criticised it as an infringement on creative freedom.
The censorship board reiterated that it would not tolerate actions that undermine Kano’s societal standards, promising stricter monitoring of content produced in the state’s film industry.
