A devastating windstorm has fueled multiple wildfires in Los Angeles County, California, prompting tens of thousands of people to evacuate their homes.
The largest fire, in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood, has destroyed over 1,000 structures and scorched more than 15,800 acres with zero containment.
Governor Gavin Newsom confirmed that five people have died in the fires, with the death toll likely to rise.
The fires, which are mostly uncontained, have forced the closure of all schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District on Thursday.
Other major fires include the Eaton Fire, which has burned over 10,000 acres and is threatening 13,000 buildings, and a brushfire in the Hollywood Hills near Runyon Canyon, where evacuation orders have been issued.
