ABUJA (CHATNEWSTV) — Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has congratulated Senator Azubuike Mbata on his election as President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the apex socio-cultural organization representing the Igbo people of Nigeria.
In a statement issued Saturday by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, Atiku also extended his felicitations to other members of the new executive, praising the peaceful and credible election held Friday in Enugu State.
“The exemplary leadership of the South East Governors’ Forum in ensuring a free and fair election, as well as a smooth transition, is commendable,” Atiku said. “There are lessons to be drawn from the unity and collaboration demonstrated, despite political differences.”
Describing the election as a “significant moment” for Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Atiku highlighted Mbata’s victory as a signal of “a new era of progress, unity, and development” for the organization.
He called on the Mbata-led executive to prioritize uniting Ndigbo around shared values and fostering collaboration with other socio-cultural organizations across the country.
“The divisions that have plagued our nation require deliberate efforts to heal,” Atiku said. “The promotion of tolerance and inter-communal relations is essential for peace, stability, and national development.”
Atiku also emphasized that unity is key to addressing Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges and improving the well-being of its citizens.
With Mbata’s legislative and administrative experience, coupled with the diverse expertise of the new executive, Atiku expressed confidence in their capacity to deliver on their mandate.
“I wish Senator Mbata and his team a successful tenure for the benefit of Ndigbo in particular and Nigeria in general,” he concluded.
