Adebayo Omisakin Sunday, an individual recently pardoned from prison, has been remanded once again following allegations of theft.
Sunday was one of 53 convicts who received clemency from Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on December 26, 2024, and was listed as number eight on the pardon roster for “simple offences.”
Just eight days after his release, on January 3, 2025, Sunday is accused of breaking into a residence in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, where he purportedly stole a plasma television valued at N600,000, according to The Nation.
The police have charged Sunday with theft and burglary, to which he has pleaded not guilty during court proceedings.
His attorney, Najite Okobe, has requested that the court grant bail under lenient conditions. However, police prosecutor Kayode Adeoye opposed this request, citing that Sunday was recently pardoned by Governor Adeleke prior to allegedly committing the new offence.
“On January 3, 2025, at about 12:00 p.m. at Al-Medinat Area, Iludun, Osogbo, Omisakin broke into the house of one Shittu Damilare and stole a plasma TV worth N600,000,” the police prosecutor said.
“Governor just pardoned him a few days ago. He was sentenced to prison by Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara and he was not done serving his jail term.”
Adekanmi Adeyeba, the magistrate, ordered the remand of the defendant at the Ilesa Correctional Centre and adjourned the case to January 10.
When the case was called on January 10, the magistrate denied Sunday bail and adjourned the case to February 2025.
