Agency Report –
Enyimba FC rising star, Ifeanyi Ihemekwele says they are ready to confront their Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, rivals Kano Pillars as they prepare for the second stanza of the 2024/2025 season.
Ihemekwele, who shone brightly in this season’s CAF Confederation Cup, CAFCC, netting four goals in as many games, cementing his place as one of the continent’s standout players in spite of Enyimba’s unfortunate group-stage exit in the competition.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Enyimba will face Kano Pillars on Thursday in a matchday 20 encounter of the ongoing NPFL season.
Ihemekwele said the club had returned from the continental assignment to vie for the league title and to take back their deserved position on the log.
He said, “I feel good scoring four goals on the continent; this being my debut season in the CAF Confederation Cup makes it even more special,” Ihemekwele said.
“The opportunity to play at this level is rare, and I truly relish it. But now, our focus is firmly on the league.
“For the league’s second stanza, we are coming back stronger, trust me; it’s going to be tough for every team that will face us.
“The new technical crew has brought fresh ideas and we have made significant adjustments to our game, so we are ready to redeem ourselves,” he added.
The striker further said that their game in Cairo, Egypt was an indication that Enyimba can compete at the highest level.
“Our game in Cairo showed that we can compete at the highest level and we are fully prepared for the outstanding matches, starting with Kano Pillars.
“It is a chance to prove that Enyimba is still the team to beat,” Ihemekwele said.
NAN reports the former Shooting Stars forward left his mark on African football by scoring crucial goals against heavyweights Zamalek SC, Black Bulls FC and Al Masry.
He has seven goals to his name this season, four in the CAFCC and three in the NPFL.
He is determined to elevate his game as the People’s Elephant look to reclaim domestic dominance.
