LAGOS (CHATNEWSTV) — A prominent political pressure group in Lagos State, the League of Concerned Lagosians (LCL), has endorsed Dr. Tunji Alausa, Minister of State for Education, as its candidate for the 2027 Lagos gubernatorial election under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement signed by Oladipo Wahab and titled “Alausa: Save Lagos Now,” the LCL emphasized that the minister is uniquely positioned to continue the visionary legacy of President Bola Tinubu, whom they regard as the architect of Lagos’ transformative journey.
The group highlighted Alausa’s background as a Chicago-based medical doctor and his current role in the education ministry, arguing that his expertise is crucial for realizing Tinubu’s vision for Lagos.
“Dr. Alausa possesses the necessary knowledge and skills to attract contemporary developments,” Wahab stated. “He will complement President Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to rejuvenate the state.”
Wahab also urged the President to allow Alausa to focus on his home state responsibilities while appealing to other aspirants to exercise patience. He further called on the impeached Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, to refrain from actions that could destabilize the political landscape, warning that resistance to political realities could be seen as an attempt to undermine Tinubu’s influence in Lagos.
The statement also commended Tinubu for his ongoing economic reforms, encouraging Nigerians to remain patient as the benefits of these initiatives become evident.
“Alausa has an impressive medical career, having founded the Kidney Care Centre (KCC) in 2004, which has expanded to 17 locations in Illinois and several others across the U.S.,” the statement said. “He also established the Dialysis Care Centre in Homer, Illinois, in 2014 and has collaborated with numerous medical facilities to address kidney-related diseases.”
Before his appointment as Minister of Education on October 23, 2024, Alausa served as Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare from August 21, 2023, where he played a key role in implementing health policies alongside Minister of Health Prof. Ali Pate.
His educational background includes a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Lagos, followed by advanced training in the U.S.
“As Minister of Education, Alausa has already made significant changes, including the abolition of the controversial 18-year age requirement for university admission and a commitment to revamp degree programs to better meet labor market demands,” the statement added.
“With his extensive experience and proven track record, Dr. Tunji Alausa is poised to be a strong candidate for the governorship of Lagos State in 2027.”
