Abuja Native Doctor Hospitalized After Testing ‘Bulletproof’ Charm on Himself

ABUJA, Nigeria (CHATNEWSTV) — An Abuja-based native doctor, Ismail Usman, is in critical condition after reportedly testing a self-made “bulletproof” charm by shooting himself in the stomach with a locally fabricated gun. The charm failed, leaving him severely injured.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued by spokesperson Josephine Adeh on Saturday.

“A distress call from Shandam Michael reported a shocking event involving Ismail Usman, a local herbalist known for his unconventional methods,” Adeh said. “In a misguided attempt to test the effectiveness of a self-made ‘bulletproof’ charm, Usman shot himself in the stomach with a shotgun. Unfortunately, the charm failed to protect him, resulting in life-threatening injuries.”

Police officers from the Byazhin Division responded promptly to the distress call, rushing Usman to Kubwa General Hospital. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital, where doctors are working to save his life.

Following the incident, police conducted a search of Usman’s residence and recovered the homemade gun and various charms used in his experiment.

Adeh said Usman would face legal consequences for his actions.

“Investigations are ongoing, and Usman is expected to face charges for unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide under Section 231 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria,” she said.

FCT Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu condemned the incident, highlighting the risks associated with illegal firearms and reckless practices.

“This incident underscores the dangers of illegal firearms and the importance of public awareness about their misuse,” Disu said.

Usman remains under medical care as authorities continue their investigation.
