Adamawa State Governor Fintiri Approves ₦70,000 Minimum Wage for State and LG Workers

Governor Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has approved the payment of the ₦70,000 national minimum wage to workers across both state and local government levels.

The implementation of this new wage structure is set to begin in the coming months, according to the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Emmanuel Fashe.

In a statement disclosed during an interview with journalists after a closed-door meeting with the governor on Tuesday, Fashe confirmed that state government workers will start receiving their salaries based on the new minimum wage from August 2024. Local government workers will follow suit, beginning in September.

Fashe explained that the state government will initially use the consequential adjustment table from 2019 to implement the new wage, pending the release of an updated table from the National Salaries, Wages, and Income Commission.

“Whatever the worker was earning under the current national minimum wage of ₦32,000 in Adamawa State will be adjusted proportionally in line with the new minimum wage,” he stated.

He also emphasized Governor Fintiri’s commitment to the welfare of workers in the state, noting that the new minimum wage is being implemented even before the official release of the updated adjustment table.

“Governor Fintiri is deeply committed to the welfare of workers, which is why the new minimum wage is being implemented now,” Fashe added.
