Berlin – From the 2026-27 season onwards, the official matchball for the Bundesliga and second division will come from German athletic apparel manufacturer Adidas, the German Football League (DFL) said in a statement on Thursday.
The partnership will initially run for four seasons until 2029-30 and will apply to all matches in Germany’s top two divisions as well as the Franz Beckenbauer Cup (as the German Supercup will be renamed from 2025-26), and the relegation/promotion play-offs.
“Adidas tabled a very strong offer, that was accepted by the DFL and the 36 clubs in all parameters,” DFL CEO Steffen Merkel said.
For Adidas, it’s a comeback as the company previously supplied the official matchball from 2010 to 2019.
“The future cooperation once again strengthens our presence in the domestic market. After all these years, it was very important to us to once again provide the official match ball for the German Bundesliga,” said Marina Moguš, managing director for Central Europe at Adidas.
The current Derbystar balls will continue to be used until the end of the upcoming 2025-26.
