African Football Stars and Legends to Shine at 2024 CAF Awards in Marrakech

MARRAKECH, Morocco (CHATNEWSTV) — A constellation of Africa’s football greats, past and present, will gather Monday at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech for the 2024 CAF Awards, a celebration of the continent’s football achievements and promising future.

The event, which begins at 7 p.m. local time (6 p.m. GMT), will honor the year’s standout players, coaches, and teams while paying tribute to the legends who have shaped African football history.

“This is more than an awards ceremony. It’s a celebration of our shared heritage and the bright future of African football,” said CAF President Patrice Motsepe in a statement.

Among the icons gracing the ceremony is ex-Mali midfielder Seydou Keita, a key figure in FC Barcelona’s historic run between 2008 and 2012, where he won two UEFA Champions League titles. Egyptian star Mohamed Zidan, who clinched back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) titles in 2008 and 2010 and won consecutive Bundesliga trophies with Borussia Dortmund, will also be in attendance.

Kenyan football stalwart Victor Wanyama, who played a pivotal role in Kenya’s qualification for the 2019 AFCON, will join the celebration. Also making an appearance is double Olympic 800-meter champion Caster Semenya, bringing her athletic star power to the event.

Former Cameroon goalkeeper Joseph Antoine Bell, a veteran of three FIFA World Cups and one of Africa’s most revered goalkeepers, will represent the Indomitable Lions’ enduring legacy.

Women’s football will take center stage as well, with South Africa’s Portia Modise, who scored 101 goals for her country, and former stars like Ghana’s Alberta Sackey and Equatorial Guinea’s Genoveva Añonman attending.

Fabrice Akwa, who captained Angola to its first FIFA World Cup in 2006, will also be honored for his role in the country’s historic football achievements.

The CAF Awards, renowned for highlighting African football excellence, will celebrate not only the past year’s achievements but also the collective contributions of legends who have propelled the sport forward on the continent.

“This event is a reflection of African unity and the extraordinary talent that has emerged from our continent,” said CAF in a statement. “The Legends remind us of the foundation on which our football thrives today.”

As the stars align in Marrakech, the 2024 CAF Awards promise to be a night of inspiration, pride, and celebration of African football’s enduring legacy.
